That happened to me once the last time the server was up during the testing weekend or whatever.
I logged in but I was following Rajko's character. I could see my character through his eyes, so to speak, but he was controlling the movements and what not, and I sat back and watched. I told him about it (but now that I think about it, he probably couldn't even see my chat), dropped connection and relogged with no issue.

The game is working a lot better and clearer than the weekend test. I get kicked less frequently that for sure. I saw people earlier (530pmEastern) but not now for some reason...
