IRC Channel - bitbomb - 23-12-2010 There's an IRC channel on Quakenet if anyone's interested in keeping it realtime. Channel: #mxoemu Network: Quakenet Hook it up with your favorite IRC client. If you're not IRC savvy, it's quite easy to join this chat with a web client. IRC2Go seems OK, but I don't use web clients so there's probably something better. If anyone knows of one, please post it. Here's the URL if you'd like to join via the web: http://www.mxosource.com/chat/ Just chose a nickname and click "Continue" If a software client is more your style, I highly recommend X-Chat 2 for Windows. (I assume everyone's using Windows as there was no mac/linux MxO client, and if you're using Linux you probably don't need me to recommend an IRC client) http://www.silverex.org/download/ Or for you iPhone junkies: http://www.appsafari.com/chat/5867/rooms/ Also, Pidgin is a multi-protocol IM client. It's a great way to pull IRC, GTalk, AIM, MSN, MyspaceIM, etc. into one client. http://www.pidgin.im/download/ See you there.... RE: IRC Channel - SadPanda91 - 23-12-2010 Nice! I just entered.. RE: IRC Channel - QuiDormit - 23-12-2010 Personally, I recommend Pidgin. It can handle AIM, GTalk, IRC chat, ICQ, MSN Messenger, MySpace IM, Yahoo! chat, just to name a few. Also, with plugins, it can support Facebook chat, xFire chat, and Skype. Again, just to name a few. I use it as my all-in-one program to handle all of that stuff. Makes life easy. When I get around to rebuilding this PC, I'll hop in to DALnet. God, I haven't been on IRC in nearly a decade, back when I used to host a radio show. haha. RE: IRC Channel - bitbomb - 23-12-2010 Yeah, Pidgin is spectacular, I've been using it since the GAIM days. I didn't even notice Facebook IM support was added, I've got to set that up. I'll add Pidgin to the OP, thanks for the reminder. I don't dig Pidgin's IRC support so I always forget it even has it. I remember being a teen on IRC in the mid '90s with my old handle neodox, joining empty channels and typing things like "Is anyone out there? Am I alone?" Needless to say, when The Matrix and Animatrix came out a few years later, it blew my mind. That movie hit me over the head with coincidental similarities. RE: IRC Channel - SadPanda91 - 23-12-2010 Does anybody have a suggestion for an iPhone IRC app? Here's the question and a couple informative replies: http://answers.oreilly.com/topic/858-whats-the-best-irc-client-for-the-iphone/ RE: IRC Channel - thyr - 23-12-2010 I used flowchat (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=317685067&mt=8) before. I never got it to save channels, but otherwise it has a decent GUI. Then there's also colloquy. Btw: Stop "FB". RE: IRC Channel - HD_Morpheus - 25-12-2010 Xchat has version for linux. I just installed it from aptitude and connected ok to Dalnet (was on the predefined server list). On the other hand, the Dalnet server doesnt hide your hostname, ip address and ip-provider, and explicitly autoblocks proxies (if you use them to hide that data) so,personally, i will pass. RE: IRC Channel - SadPanda91 - 25-12-2010 Thanks for all the iPhone help RE: IRC Channel - bitbomb - 26-12-2010 (25-12-2010, 02:14 PM)HD_Morpheus Wrote: Xchat has version for linux. Do you happen to know if Quakenet is the same way? What network do you recommend? I only chose DalNet because it may be easier for non-IRC people to use, but there's no important reason that it should be there. Hope to hear your suggestion, and thanks for the info! |
