i think warner will give up mxo.
I know the thing with Turbine, but in the past, Turbine for itself shut some games down (as far as i remember).
well.....how about we start a forum for donations...or at least do a tally from people here to see if they would actually consistatnly play the game ....not the way it was before where people play it here and there and say that it sucks....
Im going n my own here and sayng that the game was never once Adverstised here in Australia as a new game launching and no games shops announced its arrival either.
I do have an idea that there are ppl in USA and UK that WOULD ALSO play this game we just need numbers and no matter the cost we need to band up to raise it then we will hit another problem, whos going to run it and are we willing to keep paying the 20 a month to play it I mean someones internet speed is going to have to upgrade and thier badwidth will need to increase and they have to pay their internet usaage so its only fair to keep paying the 20 a month on top of any collections we make.

This has been suggested, and my question is always:

Who would you trust with your money to follow through with this? And in the event it doesn't work, when do you get your money back? How long do you keep trying until they say no, and the collective group gives up?
that's a good point QuiDormit.

i always thought almost the same, one of the reasons that made me no accept donations for this project (meaning for me).

But on the other hand, i would trust more in people who already spend money to give this to all (forums... servers... money!).

On another hand (further!), there are some free mmorpg's (dofus like?)that charge fees and that's ok, but i am not sure if this being emulated has that chance. Should be used only to pay the montly quota...

I have a 3.99 a month hosting package, and I can install a whole buttload of forums if I felt inclined. Domain names are 10-15 American a year max. That doesn't really come close to the amount of money that would be necessary to buy this project (if they would even sell it; hint: they won't).

Now, when it comes to hosting servers for the game, or even for the general traffic of the site, etc, then whoever is hosting that particular shard can, by all means, ask for money to help keep the project up once it's reached (or neared) completion.
yeah, i know, i got two or so hostings.

On the other topics... yeah. I saw about 50-79 am $ / month as a low-hardware server, so i would expect that.

Anyway, 79 * 1000 months is less than 79k that could be offered to buy the code without sucess on getting it(to name a quantity).

And we wont live 1000 months more, i guess.

That wont be all costs to buy it. Warner Bros, Monolith Productions, the wachosky brothers and all other lead persons or companies of the MXO-Project want to earn money. I think they all see the $ in their eyes.
If that would be the only costs to buy it i would say we dont buy it. I would prefer to rent it for 240 months. 20 years would be more than enough i think.
80 * 240 = 19.200
ok at the end lets say 20k

Is there anyone outside who would pay 20k ? I dont think. Sad
So, we would have to find interesting people/player who are ready to spend money to this.
20k / 500 Players = 40 $ (for 20 years)

40 $ would be more than ok for me to reactivate MXO with fully functions.

Lets find 500 Players and someone who can manage all these things with Warner Bros. My english isnt perfect enough to contact WB.
And this is bout as far as I have gotten. Recently my work has changed so I control my own hours and deadlines, I have numerous hours of free time now and have been interested in doing what needs to be done in order for me to take over hosting. This includes ALOT. I already have a lawyer to work with in negotiations. Before even thinking that far ahead, talking serious business with (primarily) WB about my interest and what can be offered and possible settlements. No, theres no way in hell any of us can really afford to BUY mxo... Actually purchasing the game and all rights is about what I thought It would be (starting negotiations at that!). Much more than your probably thinking actually. But coming to a mutual agreement with hosting it, an having the rights to do so, is much more realisic. lol So just last week I started digging with my lawyer into this. I have not mentioned it on any forums or anything because Im far from having anything set in stone. But something that is a great asset in doing this is having as much support from others (just verble is enough) to stand beside me showing others are SERIOUS about this... Not just talking big and saying they will inquire on this subject, etc etc... But ones that are genuine. So, to make a long story short, this is not impossible by far,nor is it actually as far-fetched as most think it would be. Devotion to the project is key. Wink

Considering that 1,000 months is a little over 83 years, that's a bit long of a lifespan for a human, let alone a game server. Heck, the internet itself isn't 83 years old, come to that....

But where did you get this 1,000 months figure, might I ask? If a hosting service is charging $79 a month, then that should be $79 a month no matter how long the server lives, barring inflation.

Or is that taking into account the amount of time it would take to offset the financial cost of greasing Time Warner's palms with big, chunky money bags just to get the rights to the MxO engine in the first place? Undecided
All this discussion makes me wonder how you could modify the model in MXO to make it free to play with micro transactions.

Obviously, You'd get access to all of Richmand for free but how about the following made available in a Micro Transactions Store.

1. Access Keys for Neighborhoods.
2. Story Line Missions.
3. Red Bits/sub routines etc.
4. Access to the Casinos, other raiding buildings.
5. Access to the Constructs.

I'd like to speculate that mxo would probably still be with us if they's done the same as DDO, but hell we are talking SOE here.
